Start by choosing a Parish or Topic from the list on the right
Use the sidebar on the right of each page to navigate around the site. You don't need to come back to this page; wherever you are, there will be a sidebar of links (except where you have clicked to enlarge a photo).
Most of the photos are thumbnails: click on them for a larger image.
Each topic has ideas of things to look out for...
Most pages have a list of useful resources to help you search for more information. The sources listed are available either at the Jersey Library or the Jersey Archive.
The site is designed for a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. However it should work with other resolutions.
This site has been prepared by the Jersey Library, in association with the Jersey Archive (part of the Jersey Heritage Trust), based on material in our various collections.
We welcome everyone with an interest in Jersey's history to explore this site! It was originally designed for teachers and children of Key Stages One and Two, but all are welcome.
Since we launched this site in 2002, more pages and subjects have been added. The latest update includes more photographs and improved navigation.
One of the main topics added is Queen Victoria's visit to the Island in 1846. There are two separate souvenir books relating to here visit, each by a different artist. John Le Capelain and Philip Ouless both presented books showing Jersey at that time, and including illustrations of the visit.
This site was last updated in February 2008.
