Inflection of Verbs - Number

A verb is inflected to show whether or not the subject is singular or plural:

  • the boy walks fast : singular

  • the boys walk fast: plural.


Inflection of Verbs - Person

Verbs can be inflected to show person.


First person

We say a verb is in the first person when the subject is either

'I' or 'we'. For example:

  • 'I walk' is first person singular.

  • 'We walk', is also first person plural, agreeing with 'we'.
