Search English Diaries and Journals 11-16 Key Stage 34

Summary.

A diary is usually written about the events taking place on an exact date. A journal is written about what happens about that time.

A diary is usually written for only the author or people close to him to read. A journal is written with a wider audience in mind.

A diary can be used to remind us what we have to do on a certain day.

Look at some more diaries, for example, the 'Diary of Anne Frank' and 'The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, 13 3/4'. Do you think that they fit into the description of what a diary is?

Now it's your turn! Write a diary entry for each day for the next week, and compare what you have written with the newspaper reports of what has been happening during the week.
