22nd: Tenzin Gyatso, aged five, was enthroned as the 14th Dalai Lama in Lhasa, Tibet, in 1940. The Dalai Lama's biography has information about His Holiness the Dalai Lama's life and role.

24th: The Gregorian Calendar was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582; it replaced the Julian Calendar, but was not adopted in Britain until 1752. The Greeenwich 2000 site has a history and explanation of different Calendar Systems.
