Greek soldiers

Greek soldiers had to buy their own weapons and armour. A wealthy citizen could afford the best spears and swords, and the strongest shields and body armour. Poor soldiers would have to make do with whatever equipment they could afford. After winning a battle soldiers sometimes hung their armour in trees, or inside a temple, as a "thank you" to the gods.
