Wheels

The wheels poem is intended for use as a springboard for a range of cross curricular activities.

Music The poem itself has two very distinctive rhymic patterns to it which allow for exploration in music but which also links back to syllabic awareness.

Design and technology You could ask the children to draw and label a side view of a bicycle. They may wish to see one to copy or simply print and copy the one provided. A list of parts could be provided for reference.

History Ask the children to select one method of wheeled transport and use reference books to research its history. They could make a series of drawings to show the changes in deign and function over the years.

An example from a year two class-

Take some wheels and metal bright as the sun, Paint it all the colours of the rainbow, Mix in chains and tyres cut and bruises And you have made a bike.
